PPBF: Only Ants for Andy

Author/Illustrator: Jashar Awan
Publisher: Norton Young Readers, 2021
Age:
3-5
Themes: anteaters, food habits, sloths

Opening: I’m Andy…and I’m very particular. “I like what I like.”

Summary: (from my library’s catalog) A picky anteater named Andy tries out new things with his best friend Sam Sloth and learns that different does not necessarily mean bad.

I picked this book because: I easily identify with books involving picky eaters! There, I said it! And appreciate any book that might have encouraged 5 yr old me to try something new. The illustrations are bright and fun – including the character designs and lovely use of texture. The only thing I feel “picky” about, is that I wish it had been a tiny bit longer! Cute, sweet – TRY it!

Resources/activities: make a list of foods, music, or toys you like. Make a list of food, music, and toys you are curious about. Choose 3 things from the “curious” list and give them a try, even if it has to be one at a time! Read Bread and Jam for Frances, by Russell and Lillian Hoban – my childhood favorite!
