PPBF: The Story of a Story

Author: Deborah Hopkinson
 Hadley Hooper
Publisher: Neal Porter Books, 2021
Themes: authorship, creation, inspiration

Opening: This is the story of a story.

Summary: (from my library’s catalog) A child struggles to write a story until he finds inspiration outside his window.

I picked this book because: My critique partner told me about it and she was right! It’s deceptively simple with timeless illustrations. And as an illustrator I would say the visual creative process is quite the same. Would that we all had an adorable furry assistant – well, some of you surely do! I have to wait for summer when I can leave my door open for neighborhood cats! Enjoy this book – it’s a treat!

Resources/activities: the book walks readers through the process and the author has provided a quick guideline to get writers started in the back matter. Write on!
