Author/Illustrator: Will Mabbitt
Publisher: Penguin Workshop, 2019, orig. published by PRH UK, 2017
Age: 3-6
Themes: worms, counting books, humorous stories
Opening: This is a book about worms. (I can only draw worms.)
Summary: (from my library catalog) Teaches the reader to count to ten using worms that have great adventures or everyday experiences, described but not illustrated due to the author’s inability to draw anything but worms.
I like this book because: super simple, super bright, and super funny! I’t’s simple, really! (psst, I’m still laughing!)
Resources/activities: what can you draw? Make a counting book with whatever subject you like to draw best; dig up and examine some worms, but remember to treat them well, and put them right back as soon as you’re finished! Make tissue paper worms by following instructions HERE
For more Perfect Picture Book Friday picks with teacher/parent resources, check out the list on Susanna Hill’s blog HERE.
It’s funny, people who can’t draw generally say, “I can only draw stick figures,” Worms is super funny! I love your review of this colorful book that I’m looking forward to checking out.

This book truly made me LOL in the bookstore – instant purchase! And your tissue paper worm craft is AMAZING! Now where did we stash that leftover tissue….?

This is just too hilarious. I’ve got to find this and read it. Cheers to all the non-artists in the world! Thanks for featuring this book, Julie.

Oh Julie, I remember doing that activity with straw wrappings as a kid. What a great idea for playing with tissue paper! This sounds like such a funny book. I can’t wait to find it. Thanks!

Just goes to show you don’t need detailed illustrations to be engaging!☺️
