Author: Natasha Wing
Illustrator: Helen Dardik
Publisher: Sterling, 2018
Age: 3-8
Themes: romance, dance, pastries
Opening: Bagel loved to dance. It made him happier than a birthday cake!
Summary: (from my library catalog) Bagel wants to compete in a dance contest, but everyone from Pretzel to Croissant turns him down until, at last, shy and lovely Cupcake agrees to be his partner..
I like this book because: it’s a buttered-up romance sprinkled with pastry puns, and garnished with delectable characters! Just right for foodies young and old, and all the sweettooths inbetween! Mary Berry would agree, “It’s a good bake!”
Resources/Activities: learn a few dance steps, or go all out and take a swing lesson; bake cupcakes and/or bagels; try to come up with your own pastry puns!
Check out Natasha’s dress, made especially to celebrate this book!

This book looks like fun. As for me, I LOVE a simple plain bagel with simply cream cheese. Delish!

Another great story by Natasha. Food puns are certainly popular and I think kids gobble them up! I like egg salad on a bagel — for lunch.

I bet I’d like that ES on a bagel too – must try it soon!

This book caught my eye the minute I saw it. Thanks for the inside peek, Julie, and Natasha and Helen – hats off, well done and a bowlful of congratulations. My favorite topping is peanut butter.

I love a good pastry — or a good pastry pun. And the illustrations take the cake; I love the color palette. My favorite bagel toppings are Nutella for a sweet bagel and avocado for a savory one.

This book looks entertaining! Thanks for highlighting it.
I am super boring on toppings. I only put butter on my bagel. 🙂

As a former New Yorker, nothing would be better than a bagel sent to me in the mail 🙂 Thanks for this wonderful opportunity for a taste of home in a book.

This is so funny. I love cream cheese but my hubby doesn’t. And I made him THIS picture for his latest Christmas present: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bc6iN-zA9Et/?taken-by=jenanbenton
