Author: Jean Leroy
Illustrator: Matthieu Maudet
Publisher: Eerdmans, 2016, originally publ. in France by L’école des loisirs, 2013
Age: 4-8
Themes: wolves, manners, humorous stories
Opening: A young wolf, whose parents had taught him good manners, went hunting alone, in the forest for the first time.
Summary: (from my library catalog, short and to the point) A young wolf must fulfill his prey’s last wishes before he devours them.
Why I like this book: I have a penchant for sweet-on-the-outside stories with bite! The illustrations are much like those found in graphic novels, with very simple use of color and white space, allowing for the characters to take the simple plot on a well-paced ride!
Resources/Activities: A great book to discuss manners, honor, expectation and safety too!

Yep – I predicted this would land on your PPBF list when I saw it! Happy Friday.

Love the humor! There’s another funny French wolf book, Ze Vais Te Manzer about a wolf with an overbite and the critters he’s about to eat can’t understand him. One of my favorite books. Hysterical. Hope it gets translated into English. Although I’m sure it won’t be considered pc. (Then again, Lane Smith was able to get the word jackass in his book. . . . you never know!)

When was it released? Do you know if it’s available in English, Robin? I MUST read it!

I think 2012. It looks like there might be an English version but I’m not seeing it. The illustrations are amazing! https://www.amazon.com/Ze-Vais-Te-Manzer-French/dp/2352411130/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1478003978&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=ze+vais+te+manger+%28english%29
