Author/Illustrator: John Burningham
Publisher: SeaStar Books, 1978 (Originally published in the UK by Random House, 1978)
Ages: 3-6
Themes: bedtime, decision-making, humorous stories
Opening: Would you rather…
Summary: (from my library catalog)A series of comical choices such as, “Would you rather eat spider stew or slug dumplings or mashed worms?” ends with an invitation to bedtime.
I like this book because: What fun! The notion of asking the reader to choose between a variety of increasingly silly options to simple questions is genius! A dare any child not to enjoy this! The playful loose drawings are a perfect compliment.
Resources/activities: Make up your own set of questions and options to choose from, according to themes, books or units a class might be covering.
For existing PPBF selections including resources and activities, go to Susanna Hill’s blog: HERE
I love the awful spider stew, but count me out, I choose bed. I do have a question: Where do you post these on Susanna’s blog. I can find the instructions, but then a list of books, but no linkys. I know there is none this week, but I can’t find it any week.

Sorry I couldn’t answer you last week, Sue. I was ‘away form my desk’ attending the NY conference and enjoying NY.

Another charmer! I could see kids reading this book to each other and then making up their own series of questions. You always find the gems! Love the format.

This reminds me of Would You Rather Be A Bullfrog by Theo LeSeig (Dr. Seuss – Theodor GEISEL – Theo LESIEG). I’ll check this out! 😀
